Ukraine’s forces carried out a strike with U.S.-made ATACMS long-range missiles on a military target in the Bryansk region which borders Ukraine, Russia’s Defense Ministry said Tuesday.
“Tonight at 03:25 Moscow time, the Ukrainian Armed Forces struck a facility in the Bryansk region with six ATACMS ballistic missiles,” the Defense Ministry said in a statement carried by the state-run RIA Novosti news agency.
The ministry said that S-400 air defense systems and Pantsir missile systems intercepted five of the ATACMS missiles, while one missile was damaged.
“Missile fragments fell on the technical area of a military facility and a fire started. The fire has already been extinguished,” the ministry said.
The Defense Ministry did not report any casualties or property damage.
The General Staff of the Ukrainian Armed Forces has not confirmed the reports, according to Ukrainian TV channel 24 Kanal.
Earlier Tuesday, the RBC Ukraine news website reported, citing a source in Ukraine’s Defense Forces, that Kyiv used ATACMS to target a facility in the Bryansk region town of Karachev.
The Defense Ministry’s statement comes days after the Biden administration authorized Ukraine to use ATACMS inside Russia’s borders following months of requests from Kyiv.

A Message from The Moscow Times:
Dear readers,
We are facing unprecedented challenges. Russia’s Prosecutor General’s Office has designated The Moscow Times as an “undesirable” organization, criminalizing our work and putting our staff at risk of prosecution. This follows our earlier unjust labeling as a “foreign agent.”
These actions are direct attempts to silence independent journalism in Russia. The authorities claim our work “discredits the decisions of the Russian leadership.” We see things differently: we strive to provide accurate, unbiased reporting on Russia.
We, the journalists of The Moscow Times, refuse to be silenced. But to continue our work, we need your help.
